Rodney Walker Homes for Sale | Rodney Walker (1910-1986) mid-century modern designer, builder and engineer worked as a draftsman in the office of Rudolph Schindler. Walker designed and built over 100 homes in Southern California utilizing his principle design philosophy – economy and efficiency without aesthetic compromise (he was known to be able to hold construction costs down). Walker contributed three designs to Arts & Architecture magazine’s Case Study House program during the late 1940s, Case Study House #16, #17 and #18.
Throughout his work, Walker experimented extensively with dynamic roof planes, transparency, skylights, built-in planters, double-sided fireplaces and outdoor rooms. He designed from a 3-foot building module, creating spacious, flexible, and economic architectural designs. Many of Rodney Walker’s homes have been photographed by famed architectural photographer Julius Shulman.
Los Angeles became a hub of post-war design and experimentation as visionary architects reshaped residential living. Their steel-and-glass homes, post-and-beam structures, sliding walls and expansive windows embraced natural materials, open floor plans and Southern California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
