Edward Fickett Homes for Sale | As a fourth-generation Angeleno, Edward Fickett (1916-1999) is often described as an unsung hero in the atmosphere of the groundbreaking Mid-Century Modern movement and development of Los Angeles. His credentials are impressive. He graduated with a BA in architecture from USC in 1937, went on to study for his master’s degree in Engineering and City Planning at MIT, attended the Art Center of Design, and was a draftsman under renowned architect Paul Williams, before leaving to start his own firm.

Fickett was prolific, he designed more than 10,000 homes at the start of his career. These early residences, a meld of modern and traditional, were constructed in the San Fernando Valley, helping to develop Sherman Oaks, Reseda and Granada Estates. During his career, Fickett earned the reputation as a leader in designing the “California Ranch” and “California Moderne” styles of dwellings. Additionally, he designed many luxurious custom homes, commercial and multi-family housing units based on his open-plan, light-filled interiors and the integration of indoor-outdoor space via floor-to-ceiling glass so coveted by Mid-Century Modern devotees.
