The Wilkins House - Richard Neutra

South Pasadena Mid Century home, The Wilkins House – Richard Neutra, 1949. Case Study House #13 (also known as the Alpha House), has been designated as “unbuilt” – however, Neutra was able to realize his design in this fine example of Modernist architecture.

The home sits at the end of a long drive and resides on a gorgeous lot of over 30,000 square feet of usable land in South Pasadena. The main house features 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and features a 2 bedroom and 2 bath guest house.

Neutra infused the home with classic mid-century features like, dramatic angles, aluminum casement windows, covered terrazzo terraces and enormous walls of glass that open to combine the indoors with the outside.

The owners hired architect John Bertram to methodically restore the property to Neutra’s original plan for the home. Showcasing beatufiful built-in cabintery in the master suite.

Some of the design features include cork floors, radiant heating below terrazzo, tongue and groove ceilings and disappearing walls, opening on to the park-like grounds.

The serene outside setting includes a large pool with mature landscaping and flat lawns. A fine example from the modern master, Richard Neutra.
