Lloyd Wright Homes for Sale | Following in the footsteps of his legendary father Frank Lloyd Wright, his son, architect Lloyd Wright (1890-1978) carved his own architectural path with a unique independent spirit. Spending his early years in Oak Park, Illinois and Spring Green, Wisconsin, Wright attended the university there for two years before traveling throughout Europe, as a result of his father moving to Italy.
After taking a position in 1911 for esteemed Boston landscape firm Olmsted and Olmsted, Wright transferred to San Diego later that year to oversee work for the 1915 Pan-Pacific Exposition. He made his way to Los Angeles and urged the elder Wright to come to the city. Wright supervised some of the site work for his father’s project, the Hollyhock House. Lloyd Wright would go on to design some of Los Angeles’ best-known residential works, the Sowden House (1926) in Los Feliz (also a favorite for film and television productions) and the Samuel-Novarro House (1928) in The Oaks section of Los Feliz. His work incorporated bold forms, unique materials, including oxidized copper panels and a dramatic flair for the theatrical, a skill he developed working as a set designer for Paramount Studios. Wright also used variations of his father’s concrete textile block design on facades and interior elements in the design of his houses, resulting in uncompromising pure beauty.
